PLOT: The story follows Sakura, a 14 year old princess from the legendary Moon Kingdom. Since birth, She's been engaged to Aoba Oura, the imperial prince of the country. The story starts when a messenger arrives from the prince, telling her that she and the prince are getting married soon. Unwilling to do so, Sakura runs away along with a mononoke named Asagiri but gets lost and accidently looks at the full moon, but Byakuya, an old priestess an Sakura's caretaker had banned her to do so. A man-eating demon (former youko) arrives, calling Sakura Princess Kaguya and nearly wounds her, but Prince Oura's messenger and Byakuya arrive in time to save her. Byakuya then tells Sakura that she is Princess Kaguya's granddaughter, but Kaguya was a princess from the Moon Kingdom. She also tells Sakura that she is the only person that can whithdraw Chizakura, (the bloody sakura) Kaguya's legendary sword from the Moon Kingdom. She also informs her that Sakura's Mikotoji, a Kanji simbol that is given to a person right after birth and is suppost to mark one's destiny, is Destruction. Sakura then transforms into her youko form and battles the demon. She is able to whithdraw Chizakura but at first the sword refuses to anowledge Sakura as it's master. She manages to defeat the demon though. After this event, Sakura finds out that the "messanger" is actually prince Oura himself.
